Therapy for Life Transitions

Life’s changes - big or small - can bring excitement, growth, and unexpected challenges

What is considered a life transition?

Life transitions are pivotal moments that bring change, growth, and often, challenges. They can be expected or unexpected, joyful or difficult, and sometimes a mix of both. Whether it’s navigating a new season of life or adjusting to an unforeseen shift, transitions impact how we see ourselves, relate to others, and move through the world.

Common life transitions include:

  • Identity Exploration: Exploring, making sense of, and affirming your authentic self.

  • Relationships: Starting, ending, or redefining relationships, whether romantic, platonic, or familial.

  • Work and Education: Starting a new job, leaving a career, or pursuing further education.

  • Family Changes: Parenting, caregiving, or adjusting to shifts within family dynamics.

  • Personal Milestones: Moving to a new city, navigating a health diagnosis, or significant personal achievements.

As a queer therapist, I understand how systems of oppression—like heteronormativity, capitalism, and systemic injustice—can make life transitions more complex. Together, we’ll explore how these systems affect you and how to navigate them with resilience and authenticity.

Change doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Therapy offers a space to process, find clarity, and move forward with intention.

Let’s work together to make your transition one of growth and empowerment.

How Can Therapy Help?

Identify Stressors: Cultivate awareness of the present moment to reduce overwhelm within the mind and body.

Build Healthy Coping Skills: Develop personalized strategies like mindfulness, boundary-setting, and self-care practices to manage stress effectively.

Rediscover Confidence: Explore the different parts of yourself with compassion, helping you understand and integrate them to feel more whole.

Stress often accompanies these transitions, and when it becomes overwhelming, it can disrupt mental health and well-being. Sometimes life just happens! And we need a space to process and learn better coping skills to support us through challenging times. For LGBTQ individuals, life transitions may also mean navigating identity, societal expectations, and systemic oppresion, which can intensify feelings of stress and uncertainty.

Embrace Change with Confidence

You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. You don’t have to be in crisis to go to therapy. Whether you’re grappling with uncertainty, stress, or excitement about the possibilities ahead, this is a space where you can show up as you are. Together, we’ll celebrate your growth and hold space for your struggles. Whether it’s in-person in Denver or virtual in Boulder, Colorado Springs, or anywhere in the State of Colorado, you deserve a supportive space to process, build coping skills, and rebuild confidence within. Every individual experiences stress and life transitions differently, which is why I use a personalized approach tailored to your unique needs and preferences. I draw on somatic and mindfulness-based practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work to help you navigate whatever stress or transition you are experiencing. I look forward to collaborating with you throughout your healing journey!
